Bhagauti
Bhagauti is that celestial supreme power that represents the female form of the Almighty e.g. The Almighty as the male and Bhagauti as the female (mother) aspect of Divine reverence. This supreme Godly power is the creator of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.e.g. "Eka Mai jugat viai tin chele parwaan, ikk sansari, ikk bhandari ikk laye diban - Japuji Sahib, meaning:- The One Divine Mother conceived and gave birth to the three deities - One the Creator of the world; One the Sustainer, and One the Destroyer." Bhagat Kabir Ji also says in his bani, "Aval Allah noor upaya, kudrat dey sab bande, Ek NOOR tey sab jab upjeya kaun bhale kaun mande.." e.g. God created one Noor (Shakti or Power) which in turn created the universe. "And in praise of this power Guru Gobind Singh Ji inscribes in Chandi di Vaar:-
"Tein he Durga saaj key denta da naas kraya, tethon he bal Ram ley nal bana dehsur ghaiya. Tethon he bal Krisan ley Kans Kesi pakad giraya. Badey badey mune devtey keyi jug tini tun taeya. Kini tera ant na paeya."
Meaning:-
"You are the one who created Durga, who destroyed the demons. Lord Rama derived the strength from you with which he vanquished the ten-headed Ravana. Krishna borrowed the power from you with which he subjugated Kans and Kesi. All Gods, demi-gods and saints who worshipped you in different eons could not comprehend you. "
Dr.Manjit Singh, in his article, 'Chandi di Var wich mith da rupantarn', included in the book by Dr. Mohinder Kaur Gill in her book, "Dasam Guru Rachna Sansar" writes,"The creator of all the universe is the boundless and eternal power of God. Like all the other gods, demi-gods and the demons, Durga is also the creation of this boundless and eternal power." (Page 141)
This was the same supreme power that Guru Gobind Singh Ji paid homage to on the mountaintop of Naina Devi.
This power is also the initial luminary referred to in the Ardass (supplication) by Guru Gobind Singh after asking for Victory to the Almighty e.g.:-
"Pritham Bhagauti simar ke Guru Nanak Laeen dhiaye…"
"Initially pray to Bhagauti and then meditate upon Guru Nanak…"
Accordingly Guru Gobind Singh Ji visualised Guru Nanak as the All Prevailing God, as is mentioned in the Guru Granth Sahib:-
" Jot roop har aap Guru Nanak kahayeo "
Meaning:- " The divine light of the Supreme Being manifested in the appearance of Guru Nanak."
The Almighty placed His Eternal light in Guru Nanak, which subsequently passed on to the other Gurus and eventually 'glowed' in the tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh that made Him say these immortal words:-
"Waheguru Ji ki Fateh" i.e. "Victory to the Almighty"
the essence of which the Guru achieved with the blessing of mother Bhagauti, i.e.'Shakti'.
This supreme power is expressed with the name of 'Kalika' in the autobiography "Bachitter Natak"of Guru Gobind Singh in which He scribes:-
" Hemkunt parbat hai yahan, sapt sring sobhat hai tahan,
Sapt Sring teh naam kahava, Pund raj jeh jog kumava.
Teh hum adhik tapasya sadhi,
Mahan Kaal KALIKA aradhi."
Meaning:- "The Hemkunt Mountain, where the seven peaks are prominent. These seven peaks are where Raja Pandu meditated. Here I also meditaed very deeply and envisaged Maha Kaal and KALIKA."
Here 'Mahan Kaal' is the male form of the Almighty and 'Kalika' is the female form.
Bhagauti, Bhagwati, Bhweshan Bhawani etc. are all names given to this supreme power.
This supreme power being the female part of the Almighty controls the circle of life and death, and this power prevails all over the universe. Any one who prayed to this power never saw the face of defeat. That is the reason Guru Dasmesh profoundly petitioned to this celestial supreme power 'Bhagauti', and victory ceaselessly kissed His feet.
Furthermore in "Bachitter Natak", Guru Gobind Singh Ji narrates,
"Sarab Kaal hai pita Apara. Deb Kalka Maat Hamara."
The meaning is very clear, "The All prevailing and immortal Lord is my Father. His divine power 'Kalika' is my mother."
This is the same power that Guru Ji initially meditates on, and mentions as mother Bhagwati or Bhagauti.

The 'Bani' (Holy Sermon) that destroys deadly sins, and in which Guru Gobind Singh Ji prayed to Ma Bhagwati prior to meditation on Guru Nanak. He mentions numerous names of this Supreme deity e.g. Devi Bhagauti, Bhagwati, Bhawani, Chandi, Kalika, Durga, Nanda etc.
The 'Bhagauti' as 'Sword' is also one of it's names, although "Sword" is something which in itself is not of any significance until in the hand of a warrior, when it becomes a 'Kaal Shakti' i.e.a powerful destroyer.

N.B. Shubamasat

The colophon which appears on almost all manuscripts of Gurbani and Bhagti literature of medieval India has been corrupted by the copyist of the original during the 17th and 18th centuries. The authentic version written by the authors of these classics was: -

"Samaptamsatsubamsat" which when parsing should read "Samaptam Sat subam Sat"
or the real Sanskrit version as "Samaptam Sat Shubham Sat"

The scribes have depicted the bit of the whole colophon i.e. Subhmast which is in fact Subham Sat. The great rendering of the "Uggardanti Bani" clarifies this on going myth of the scribes.
